Actually I think the trees are stranger than their seasonal decorations.

Great textures in that bark - does seem to contrast oddly with the decorations :)

Oh, they are lovely and remind me of the smaller sycamores in our neighborhood with the peeling trunks. "Strange Fruit" ... an old Billie Holiday song....she's a fav of mine ;-)

allison , is the tree healthy? We have a couple of birch trees in our garden and I've never seen them peel like this (a silver birch and golden birch) !!

@phil_howcroft Yup, river birch have an exfoliating bark. I researched it last year when I came upon a stand of these trees at school. Amazing what you learn when all you thought you were going to do is snap a picture!
