Ms. Sheila Arnold, storyteller extraordinaire, came to the Lower School this afternoon to entertain the entire student body. I attended the program for third and fourth graders in which she shared both traditional and original stories. Not only did she have great storytelling artistry but her classroom management skills were second to none! She had 250 students completely engaged in providing sound effects for The Little Red Hen and watching some of their classmates demonstrate the proper way to curtsey and bow in 18th century America. She also shared some heartbreaking experiences from her own childhood as she encouraged the students to treat their friends with kindness. I'm sure she will not be soon forgotten, and her tales will have an impact long into the future.
Storytelling is such a beautiful art. It combines history and imagination, adventure and catharsis, and the creative combination of all the senses. It sounds like this program was presented by one of the greats! I would have loved to hear her. This is a lovely portrait and the frame is perfect!
A good storytelling is an art and to get the children to participate even adds to it. i bet the kids enjoyed here..so would I if I were there. enjoyed reading about her in your narrative.
