I had several potential pictures selected before I stopped by Ellen's science room to chat. She brought out this little oarsman and I fell in love. The ingenuity and craftsmanship of this Christmas ornament captured my heart. On the left you can get a good view of his acorn head and thistle body. His arms are made of soybean pods and the boat is half of a milkweed pod.
In the right hand picture you get a better look at his acorn cap and an actual soybean popping out of its pod. Notice his cute little pussy willow tail. The wire, of course, is to hang the ornament on your Christmas tree.
Ellen said there were also ears at one time, but they have fallen away. Or maybe some woodland creature couldn't resist a little nibble.
