Scholastic Reading Summit

Six from my school spent the day doing what teachers and librarians love, talking about books. Here is award-winning nonfiction writer Andrea Davis Pinkney demonstrating how important the cover is to entice the reader. These were three possibilities under discussion for a book to be published in August in honor of the 50th anniversary of the civil rights March on Washington, D.C.
There were many interesting breakout sessions on finding ways to engage students in reading. I particularly enjoyed the workshop on how students and faculty can create great 2-minute book talks. The leader posed a 6 word riddle which I was able to solve. (and won a prize!) Here is the riddle. (The answer is the title of an award-winning children's book.) "Boy Must Remember What Society Forgets." Here is the answer: http://tinyurl.com/m4w2x7d
Cool! Fun! I'd love to talk about books too! I also LOVE the answer to the riddle!
