April is National Poetry Month, but today was the highpoint of the whole celebration. It's Poem in Your Pocket Day, and all over the country, in schools and libraries and book stores, people were sharing their favorite poems. I am wearing my poetry apron which I don once a year. Then I invite children and adults as well to pick a number and read one of the poems I have tucked away in that pocket. Meanwhile, the students had a chance to make pockets of their own and select a favorite poem to store in that pocket and then share with their classmates and families.
How about you? Do you have a favorite?
Yeah! I love this! It's a great idea! It's hard to pick just one since I teach literature, but I'm going to say that I really like the message in "The First Snowfall" by James Russell Lowell.
Such a cute idea and a great storytelling diptych! We're big into Shell Silverstein over here lately! Let the hysterical laughter ensue...however, The Little Boy and the Old Man (I think that is the proper title) always gets me a little choked up!
