Children's Author and Fans

What a national treasure Kate DiCamillo is! She appeared in Richmond under the auspices of independent book store bbgb. On the right you see the twin daughters of the owner of the book store. They are currently Middle Schoolers at Collegiate, and here you see them ready to help their Mom. On the left is Kate DiCamillo and for those of you not familiar with the world of children's literature, here are some statistics that might still impress you. She is:
Winner of the Newbery Medal and a Newbery Honor, a National Book Award Finalist, and a Boston Globe–Horn Book Award Winner
12 New York Times best-selling titles in all editions
20.5 million copies combined in print worldwide
Books translated into 39 languages
Two major feature-film adaptations of her books:
Because of Winn-Dixie and The Tale of Despereaux
National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature 2014–2015
And despite all her honors, she was witty, self-deprecating and a delightful inspiring speaker.
I was happy to stand in line to have a copy of one of her books autographed for Maddie.
