Fasnacht by allie912

Fasnacht

After posting a picture on Facebook of some special treats mailed to her by her sister, my colleague and former 365er Karen, @hiway61, brought a sample to school today so some of us could taste it. This fried Pennsylvania Dutch treat, according to Wikipedia, is called Fastnachts (pronounced fost-nokts in German). Traditionally, fastnachts are made to use up the lard, sugar, butter, eggs and other rich foods in a house before the austere diet of Lent begins. Apparently it is now sold throughout Lent. If you are wondering if this is a picture of Karen and thinking she has changed, I must confess I caught her with her eyes closed and I think she would have killed me if I had posted it, so here is another teacher friend trying a bit of this sweet and crispy doughnut.
Great collage

OK...thanks for clarifying that that's not Karen!!! I thought either she'd changed a great deal, or we'd never seen photos of her other than her profile photo... That treat looks wonderful...and I'd suffer gladly the heartburn that would probably accompany it! Please tell Karen that Louise and "Clark" send love!
