Taken overlooking some homes on St. Armands Key, an island in Sarasota Bay off the west coast of Florida. It is part of the city of Sarasota.
A Frenchman named Charles St. Amand bought property on the island in 1893. His name was misspelled in land deeds, and this misspelled name is still used today.
Visionary circus magnate John Ringling purchased the St. Armands Key property in 1917. His plan was to develop the property for residential use but sold only a few plots before the Depression shut down sales. In recent years the area has become a favorite tourist community with high end shops and easy access to beautiful beaches with sand like sugar and very calm water.
St Armands Circle has been a favorite of mine since we moved to Sarasota in 1970. We used to bring our young children there quite often for ice cream and many of the wonderful places to dine. We only lived in the area for about a year and a half before relocating to Ft. Myers due to a job transfer., but have been back many time. Fav shot of this beautiful surrounding residential area
