I went to a Sunday afternoon performance of the James River Ringers, a bell ringing group celebrating 25 years. My friend Cara, an archivist at the State Library of Virginia, is the secretary of the organization and a front row performer in the group. They played a wonderful range of pieces including Amazing Grace, the Beach Boys’ Good Vibrations, Carnivale, a circus piece with shades of Spike Jones complete with a juggling clown and lots of confetti. (That’s where I got the plastic lei; the clown popped it on me as she scampered down the aisle.) The program ended with a rousing rendition of The Stars and Stripes Forever and a great time was had by all! They will be giving two more performances next weekend.
