The Coates family was a powerful force at my former school. The father, John, was an inspirational and highly respected teacher. Mother Lucy is a free spirit and talented artist who created remarkable bulletin board displays for the library. When I was the Lower School librarian, Lucy would bring her toddler, Jack, tucked into his stroller, while she worked on the displays. He was a cheery inquisitive kid and it was always fun to have him around. Fast forward many years and here is Jack again with his own family, with the same cheery inquisitive nature. I loved catching up with him.
