I like the snow that starts during the night, and you wake up to the surprise of winter white. This storm blew in at mid-afternoon when everyone was already at school, creating squealing excitement in all kids and consternation in all drivers.
Fortunately we school-types made it home before rush hour. From news reports I watched from the cozy comfort of my living room, the later evening rush hour was a mess of car accidents created, I'm sure, by inexperienced drivers who should be cited for 'Failure to use common sense."
This is a view of our library, taken about an hour into the storm.
The best thing about working at home is not having to drive to work or return on snowy, icy roads. DC traffic is bad enough on sunny days! I once had to spend a night at Bob's Big Boy restaurant because an ice storm shut down all the roads to Columbia. Not fun!
It was just starting to snow as I headed home from running a few errands. Glad to have gotten in before all the folks coming home from their jobs arrived. Nice wintery shot.
My lack of common sense was riding the bus instead of driving. Bus was over 2 hours late. I left the office and arrived home 3 hours later. Yep 2 hours waiting in the snow for the bus. Those of us waiting took shifts warming in the courthouse lobby while others stood at the bus stop.
@annc I drove home in a line of cars behind a very slow moving school bus. Apparently the driver was being very cautious, which is actually better than the insane way some southerners drive as if the snow makes NO difference in road conditions. Fortunately at some point the bus turned off and we were able to pick up speed to about 25 mph.
