The Village Centre, National Arboretum, Canberra

Taken during last week's visit to Canberra.

The timber frame of the wonderful vaulted ceiling of the main building, is made of laminated Tasmanian oak, with over 3,000 unique pieces, cut to shape from computer models.

The ten massive curved beams in the ceiling are of different lengths, with the longest being 56 metres and 12 metres high. The curvature of the roof is designed to reflect the shapes in the surrounding hills.

Designed by Peter Tonkin of Tonkin Zulaikha Greer Architects, the building won the Institute of Architects Award for ‘Best Public Building in the ACT’ in 2013.
I have taken photos of those beams, they look amazing don't they. Nice symmetry fav.
