the mighty will fall

My youngest and I were on a road trip to Dubbo - on our way over and through the Blue Mountains at around half six in the morning ( car said 0 degrees btw ) we passed this - we were stunned so I drove around the block a couple of times to find a spot to stop to take a photo - there had been bad storms and obviously this trees roots were weak and it couldn't hold on.
Goodness...maybe it just got tired and needed a lie down?

@graemestevens yes I thought that may have been the case hahahahahaha

Breaks my heart a bit when good trees come down.

@annied I would have covered it with a blanket and left it to snooze...
August 5th, 2014
@amandal I don't think this one was in fully good health which contributed to its demise

@graemestevens I only had a small towel

@annied I now have a vision of you trying to tuck it in and make it all cozy...

Sam
Mmm looks like it might keep on living as some of its roots are still in the ground!! Alas, the Council will no doubt rip it up!

@gigiflower oh it was gone by the time we were returning 3 days later - it was threatening to crash across the road

It has already been marked to take away! so sad for the poor old tree which probably has been so strong! Good photo!
August 5th, 2014
Wow... that's a big tree with a massive root!
August 5th, 2014
Oh gosh -- you captured this so well! Really dramatic.

Such a well captured scene Annie. Tells a great story. Fav.

I am amazed that some trees stay standing as long as they do as many have such small and shallow root balls. Never nice to see one toppled though!
August 5th, 2014
Wow that is a very large upheaval
August 5th, 2014
You got a great angle. I agree that this is really dramatic.
August 5th, 2014
Wow....what a massive tree & all that earth at the bottom of it.
Super capture.
August 5th, 2014
oops. All the trees which were uprooted in our storm a few months ago only had very shallow roots too, so it doesn't take much to uproot them does it.
August 5th, 2014
amazing what a stiff breeze can do, we are still cutting up the trees that came down at Easter.
August 5th, 2014
Oh yikes we've got a Hurricane on its way apparently
August 5th, 2014
Must have been a whopper of a storm. Looks like a huge tree. Sad
