Scenes from the Road 23 - E.Bickmore

This single-storey general store building, on the 'northeastern' entry to Kurri Kurri, was built in 1908, and is quite well preserved.

Kurri Kurri was proclaimed a town in 1902 and
serviced the crop of coal mining settlements at
Stanford Merthyr, Pelaw Main and Abermain.
A Scottish immigrant Edwin Bickmore arrived in
the Hunter Valley to work in the new coalmines.
By 1908 he was able to build his substantial new brick store and a separate residence opposite his first shop. He became a pillar of the local community and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and involved in a wide range of local organisations.

Very nice building. Interesting history.

Lovely capture and love the history. Looks like it’s a white goods shop now?
