@bf2016@shirleybankfarm@narayani@brett101@brett101@777margo@noko411 thanks all - I had thought that the owner John Parkinson made all his own puppets (indeed he had the sewing machine out while I was there), but that may be just for new shows and there is a puppet museum here. I don't recall any labels, but I was pushed for time!
@narayani@noko411 Narayani's right - they are Indonesian - wayang golek puppets which perform at funerals - the performance goes on all night (teatime to breakfast time). These are 3-d, but there is also a tradition of 2-d shadow puppets wayang kulit, which, if I understood John right, come in groups of 100 and the puppets play the instruments in a gamelan orchesta?!
