away for a couple of days

it may be that the rain enhanced the patina of this piece of old farm machinery - anyway, I quite liked it
The company was started by Robert Ransome (1753-1830), as a brass and iron-founder in Norwich before moving to Ipswich in 1789 where he started casting ploughshares in a disused malting at St Margaret's Ditches in Ipswich, with capital of £200 and one employee. As a result of a mishap in his foundry, a broken mould caused molten metal to come into contact with cold metal, making the metal surface extremely hard, the process was named chilled casting, which he then advertised as 'self sharpening' ploughs, and received patents for his discovery. fav

@mrforja amazing you happened across this when I hadn't even tagged it - there are a few pieces here, various makers, but I didn't stay long looking yesterday because of the rain!
