Time for manual ... by bizziebeeme

Time for manual ...

This year I want to get away from using auto setting and onto manual. Should be exciting or should I say frustrating?

Three good things today
1. Made 'dando friend' so may feature in future posts.
2. Christmas decorations all put away.
3. Becky made dinner :)
Once you start using manual you won't go back to auto!
Like the look of your new friend :)
Happy New Year to you :))

Hi L-L. go for it, if I can help let me know or we can drag @steampowered out of the cupboard for advice.

Happy new year and good luck getting into manual.

Like Al said, you won't go back to auto once you've figured it all out - probably by trial and error like I've done - lol Enjoy

Lou - I agree with Al and Rosie, once you start on manual, you'll never go back! @padlock I have a hilarious picture in my head now - thank you!

I would also like to do more manual....I have mostly kept on auto with this new camera which is a complete downward step but time has been in short supply....would be a start if I actually read the manual!!

once you get the hang of it manual is easy, it sounds harder than it is, good luck

Good decision. Cool shot. Was thinking about you on Monday, when passing the "Eiserne Steg " in Frankfurt on my way to the Dürer exhibition. Seeing all the locks on the bridge, I remember you photo of the bridge in Cologne and your story about the locks back in Febuary

You'll love manual! And also figure out when it isn't worth it (but you'll use aperture or shutter preferred and I predict never go back to auto settings again). Exciting to see a new Danbo join the site -- great shot with the rays off your camera -- it makes it look like Danbo has special powers.

Yup, t'is true, you'll never want to use auto again. I still often use Av mode though, although thats just me being lazy rather than not being able to use manual.

Yeah, another Danbo. Good luck on using manual. I think it is easy but I usually do aperture priority unless it is an event with a lot of movement when I use shutter priority. If there are a lot of changes in lighting and other conditions, I go back to auto so I need to work on that too. Maybe this year!

Great black/white!

Manual is the best thing ever!!! But if you find it hard at first, try aperture priority... it's a great "in-between" setting!!!

You're making the right decision - manual gives you so much more control, especially if you shoot in RAW mode

This time last year I hadn't ventured away from auto, and I was thinking the other day that now I hardly use it at all - you'll love it, stay with it - it's tricky at first. My biggest thing is failing to reset wacky things so that next time I pick up the camera everything is either over or under exposed beyond belief!!

Good idea getting off auto, you will rarely if ever go back. Cool processing!
