I decided today to make my way to the Southside. This the Mill Creek Trestle Bridge. It was built by the Edmonton Yukon and Pacific Railway in 1902. It is the only physical evidence left in the city that this railway ever existed.
Passenger service ended in 1928. Frieght service continued until the railway shut down in 1954.
The railway was known as the "shortest railway with the longest name". Plans were to see the rail line built from Edmonton up to the Yukon territory and eventually to the Pacific Ocean. Sadly it never made its way out of Edmonton. It only made its way as far as Glenora in Edmonton's westend.
Today the bridge is part of a walking and cycling trail in the Mill Creek Ravine
I love how you captured the bridge cutting through the forest and the creek! Great historical info, Brian! And I bet it now makes a great walking and cycling trail! Fav
