Okay, this is soooo early, but just really happy and wanted to post :-)
Got off the phone to my other half, and he's chuffed. Today was warm and sunny and the squirrel has just been playing all day, climbing, hiding, and the best bit? Digging!! A new skill that he's learned, or of course, more likely just a natural thing. We are so pleased because he needs to do these things to survive in the wild :-) And for once, we dont even mind him destroying the new plants in the hanging baskets where he does his digging!
He's been really playful all day apparently, and really into everything, even explored the front garden (tho that makes his surrogate Dad nervous because of cars).
Next step is to give him nuts in shells, just partly cracked, so he starts to realise some things are worth gnawing away for.. and also to put some mixed treats in a hanging feeder. We are just hoping that even if its already natural to him, that we might just help nudge him in the right direction? Am so proud of my other half coz he's crazy busy at the moment, but looking after the squirrel so well. He's a lovely chap :-) Its funny how important it is for us now that squirrel does well.. daft huh?
Thanks for everyone's kind words and really helpful tips. Sadly the milk didnt work but it was good to try. Now trying some pinenuts as suggested here (thanks) have sent some -and other types of nuts/seeds- in the post today, hopefully he will enjoy those too! Thankyou 365'ers :-)
ps - on another note, I was very embarrassed today when I put my coat into the dry cleaners, (the coat the squirrel snuggled up in) - a flea jumped out onto the counter. Ahhh, the shame!!! A rare downside to wildlife I guess, lol. Just glad I hadnt worn it since!
edit: Survived the 5th night no problems... and he is a she! A little female squirrel..
