Menwith Hill, Yorkshire..
First saw this a couple years ago when we drove past it on the way back from a day out.. and I meant to go back for a photo. Cant get as close for a pic anymore due to the tree's that surround it growing that much taller, so took this from up a hill. Oooh, and our neighbour protests here often !
These domes are 'radomes', that are built to protect radar antenna's from the elements, or just to conceal whats inside from public view..!
(I think its that bit that makes me play the x-files theme tune in my head, lol.)
This is the Wikipedia gump:
"RAF Menwith Hill is a Royal Air Force station near Harrogate, North Yorkshire which provides communications and intelligence support services to the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The site contains an extensive satellite ground station and is a communications intercept and missile warning site and has been described as the largest electronic monitoring station in the world"
My other half works in radar, so to speak, and tried to explain the inner workings.......they're still golf balls to me!! :-) Cloud busting....what a brill song!
Wonderful! I agree they look just like golf balls LOL! We have a few of those here and one of them is painted to look like a basketball with our local team name on it LOL.
(haha woops. Michelle and I said the same thing :P)
