Carefully!

Not my photo, but Ed's photo on his phone taken just 10 mins ago. Not bad really considering the lighting just comes from our garden lights.

We've been feeding hedgehogs for the last 5 or 6 years, cute little rascals they are! They are currently doing the mating dance. This involves hours of courtship, huffing and puffing while dancing and ripping up any plants they happen to come across. Luckily for me this year with the frosty nights I am behind in planting so there's only a few for them to destroy unlike previous years.

Funny day today too.. my brother in Brighton several weeks ago told me about a cat he'd been feeding as it seemed very hungry. He's not on social media so when I had no luck trying to get him some help down there I send him our chip reader as I have a friend here, miles away who works for cats protection.

Luckily for us the cat was chipped but the chip company Petlog have royally screwed up their entire system, losing the details of millions of pets in the UK. A few weeks later, my friend was able to get the details of the owners and the cat was indeed lost. Happy to say today though that my brother phoned the owner as soon as he saw the cat back in the garden and the owners rushed around to collect the cat, full of tears and so so happy to get their beloved pet back :-)
Oh - How cute!!!

Well I don’t know what’s lovelier - the hedgehogs or the cat story. When our cat went missing her chip had failed or fallen out somehow (always worth getting the vet to check every so often). After several weeks somebody saw my poster in the co-op and I was that tearful owner retrieving cat. I wonder if petlog will be compensating people.🤨

@judithg Aww, bless you! It's scary stuff when they go missing, I feel for you and so glad you got her home. We had similar with Lucy, found her at the back of a deep thorny hedge quite far from home. Ta for the chip tip, we've bought a scanner as we've had 2 more strays come into our garden/living at the church in the last year who we've got help for. Now on friendly terms with the local cat's protection lady!

Oh, and petlog denied problems and tried to keep it hidden for months (I told the BBC who ran a story, ha), I doubt very much they'll pay anyone. I think they may get in trouble with data protection bods though as people were able to get access to pets details that were not their own. Was a farce.

@blightygal it’s outrageous- I’m wondering if it’s worth getting the vet to resubmit our details.

@judithg The advice from petlog was customers to re-register using the same email address and the chip number. I think then if your pet's details aren't what they are then they go off and marry them up. x
