I missed a lot of these ones this week. Wow, they're awesome!

Just a little quibble... shouldn't there be an equation that works out follower-to-view ratio or something? It strikes me that the top photos are always the ones that are from people with hundreds of followers. Don't get me wrong, these pics are great, and of course the more popular you are to a certain degree depends on your pictorial talent, but it also depends on how often you comment, how many people you follow, and so on...

Shoot me down if you think I'm wrong...

Mmm.....I agree with Ed here. Haven't some of these been shown before? Or is this like the old hit parade....this week, moving up from last week's no. 7........
I also agree with Vikdaddy's sentiments......can we have an explanation of how these are chosen?

Cherrill and Vic - that would be neat to have an explanation, but somehow I always got the impression that the owners of the site just pick the ones they feel are the "best of the best"? i don't know. I just love the ones they picked though. And it gives me something to work toward...

I'm going to have to chip in on this--because I was a bit surprised to see my jellyfish up here again too (Ed, Vikdaddy and Cherrill). As nice as that is, I thought the "Official Top 20 Chart" were taken from photos that week? Am I wrong? I was under the impression these were computer generated based on number of times viewed and faved(?) Just curious.

The chart is compiled from weekly data collected from the site, including favs, comments and views. Any photo on the site can make it in to this chart, not just photos added recently. Meaning that the photos are purely chosen on how popular they have been this week, they were not neccessarily added recently though, you're very unlikely to see somebody just starting out on this ist, it's a place to aim towards.

Thanks for the speedy reply Ross. I understand how this chart is compiled, I just mean that it would be nice to see less well known photographers here too. I just think an algorithm that works out followers versus views and favourites would be a little fairer. It would give those who are less popular but by no means less talented a way of getting more recognition.

As aforementioned the top photos are always excellent, but it would be nice to get some new names on there, but I assume that working it out might be a little complex... but then again I assume the popular page works in the way I described somewhat?

The dragonfly was such a fortuitous capture. A really magical once-in-a-lifetime moment...totally gratifying. Which was reward enough.

I really am honored...and flattered that you guys liked my pictures...it means a lot! When I saw this it made me feel so loved and pushed me even more to head in the direction of photography. In a way I feel bad though...because I know what you guys are saying about the followers...but if people want to follow me then awesome...it really means a lot...and if they dont then that's fine too...either way I am fine with it...and yes that does have a lot to do with whether a photo is "popular" or not. I completely understand why some think it is unfair...but I say this in the most respectful way...that I cant control who follows me...and I can't control what spot my pictures make the top 20. It sure means a lot though..more than I can explain :) and congratulations to everybody else who made it up there too...and even those who didnt for that matter!!! (not including my pictures...) all of the photos that make top 20 are just a TINY slice of the talent here on 365.

The winners are in the top 20 slot are there for obvious reasons! You 365ers have even permiated my sleeping hours...Funny, Lauren, but I had a dream we were walking along and I was telling you how proud I was of you to have made the top two slots! (Dreams are funny things to relate, but it's perhaps no surprise many of you should have popped up as I sought out things to photograph, even in my sleep!) I'll bet I'm not alone, in that many of us are so fixated!

So, to Lauren, and all of you, thanks for your always-creative and wonderfully entertaining photos... You fill my waking hours!

Vikidaddy - I think that there would be in inherent flaw in the ratio thing. For instance, someone may have a total of two followers, and post, what may be a blurry, and just bad picture. But say three people view it, and those three people comment on it, and two of those fav it, as they're family or something. Now you have a photo that says 150% of followers viewed it, and 100% Favorited it, so OF COURSE it should be popular! Meanwhile, someone who has 400 followers has 50 favorites, 300 views and 200 comments. NOW you have the computer not thinking that one is as good because the ratios are lower. Just my thought.

On a second note, CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE!

Lauren, don't apologize for being so good at what you do! I don't think anyone meant it that way... it should give the rest of us something to aspire to. I think someone described your work as "innovative" and that is part of why you made it on this list not just as number 1 but number 2 as well :)

Thanks for the reply Ross...this type of thing always gives us some inspiration and qualities to aim for.

Zachary - I understand your point, but if you look at the popular page you don't get on to it if you have one view and that person makes your pic a fave. There would have to be an arbitrary cut-off point for it to work which would be factored into the algorithm. I wouldn't like to suggest what that figure would be though!

And Lauren, please be assured that it wasn't a personal dig or anything like that, it was a general comment about the lack of diversity in these top 20s. You're great!
