At the German Gymnasium - a restaurant in a historic building that was once, you guessed it, a German gymnasium. Designed by Edward Gruning, it was built in 1865 as England's first purpose-built gymnasium and was funded solely from London's German community. It also hosted London's first indoor Olympic Games in 1866.
It's now a pricey restaurant with very tasty food and a selection of German beers. We also had oysters, shrimp cocktail and herring on rye bread, gnocchi and salmon, and sachertorte and apple strudel.
