I braved the cold winds and went down to the allotment for an hour this afternoon. The day has been a mixture of sunshine, snow flurries and dark skies. I was lucky enough to catch a bright spell and I quite enjoyed myself. These specimens were growing on the manure heap, they're about 3 inches tall, so were quite striking. I have no idea if they are mushrooms or toadstools - can anyone help identify them?
At first glance I thought they were chocolate Easter Eggs in a bed of straw!! Oops I know its time I had my eyes tested !! These fungi are great - what a smashing find -love the textures of the smooth, shiny dark brown fungi against the strawy texture of the manure . Happy Easter !
Amazing fungi - no idea what they are but this is a nice shot. Whenever shall we be able to plant our early potatoes? They forecast that the weather will remain cold until 20 April. At this rate, we won't have earlies until September!
@rosiekind Well I've only just put mine to chit so I don't mind waiting a few more weeks. The allotment isn't ready, but we go away in two weeks so I'd quite like to plant them before we go away.
