I've been busy using the strawberries from the allotment. This is the fourth batch of strawberry jam and this time it's flavoured with elderflower. There were three of us for dinner tonight and we managed to eat quite a large chunk of cake between us - delicious. There are still lots of strawberries left if you want to pop round! Thank you all so much for your inspiring comments and fav's on my grassy jewels photo which made it to the PP. It seems harder to get on now so I was especially encouraged and delighted.
Oh yum yum yum Judith........so talented in the garden & kitchen......what one would call a good provider!
I would be round in a minute if I lived near!
Delicious. I cannot make jam well. In fact where are you baed as my strawberries j. The allotment are few and far between and still pale green. They are onto the second year and I have had no yield yet. Really sad as I love them. .
@callymazoo We're based in East Anglia so it's one of the hottest parts of the country and probably further on than the coastal and more Northern areas.
@judithg Ah well, we net them and pick them every other day. One or two get eaten by the slugs but there are so many this year that it doesn't really matter!
@judithg I tried picking the first ones under-ripe and was surprised that they just weren't as tasty as the ones ripened on the plant. They recommend replacing your plants every three years. Think mine must be three years old by now, but I don't think I'll replace them yet. It's quite a job potting up the runners, although they make it look easy on the gardening programmes.
