422170 Miles

Spent some time car shopping today. My husband's 2002 GMC Envoy XL has 422,170 miles on it. Not banking on it making half a million miles. But the price of used cars has skyrocketed since our government's 'Cash for Clunkers' program. So we face the dilemma... new or used?

A decision I hate making - either way I feel as if I've been taken advantage of! Btw - that odometer reading is seriously impressive!

I'd say go with new and enjoy! However ... shop around. This little beauty of yours sure did give you its best shot. Can't beat that kind of mileage!! Wow ...GMC should use your car for an advertisement!

I guess I am in the minority. I like used. Let the first owner take the hit for the massive depreciation the first year.

That is some serious good mileage. We bought a new SUV a few months ago, then someone ran into our Honda Accord. Now we are looking for another car, but used are so high!

@karenann @jgpittenger @peterdegraaff @peterdegraaff @fueast @myautofocuslife @wardie @jaboney @grannysue Thanks all.. this photo wouldn't win any contests, but my husband travels for a living and takes good care of his vehicle - at 40,000 + miles per year, he spends a lot of time in it! We are considering selling both our vehicles, he will drive our company truck, and I will drive something new... 4 wheel drive almost necessary here in the mountains. One less vehicle to maintain and insure! We'll see!

wow - that car's been around a bit! I've never had one last that long!
April 22nd, 2012
holy moly.. I have never seen a car with that many miles...

@jaboney I'm with Mike. I always prefer one about 18 months to two years old. The depreciation in the first year is massive.
