This afternoon I drove to Sevier County, TN, my first visit since wildfires consumed over 17,000 acres earlier this week, destroyed more than 700 structures, 11 casualties at present, 80+ injured, and a number of people missing. I drove down there with a heavy heart for all the loss. I didn't go to see the remains, I was going to two cemeteries to leave Christmas wreaths. I am glad I did not see charred land or buildings. It was kind of comforting to see the familiar. Some residents were being allowed into areas to see what remained of their homes. A day of mixed emotions. This is the sunset from the cemetery where my parents, grandparents, great grandparents, great, great grandparents and a dear cousin are buried.
I'm so sorry for the loss of life and landscape in an area that sounds like it's been home to you and your family for a very long time. You've captured a beautiful sunset photo both here and on the next page. The silhouettes of the trees are gorgeous against the blazing orange sky.
This was so devastating and felt more personal since our phototrip to that area last year. Both of these sunset images are beautiful. I kind of like the wider view but really, either is terrific.
