Here's how the tale began……in the 1970’s, after visiting Europe, Rex and Caroline Bogaert Martin were inspired to build their own castle. In 1975 — with the castle still unfinished — Rex and Caroline divorced. The castle sat abandoned until Rex Martin’s death in 2003. A few months later, the property was sold to Miami property tax lawyer Thomas Post for $1.8 million.was built in the 1970s
Happily, that's not the end of the story. Today it is a 50-room luxury tourist inn with 16 stately guest rooms, an elegant ballroom…with a weekend rate of $355 (dinner included). And, no, I’ve never stayed there and will probably never get to. The End.
This castle sits up on a hill in the small town of Versailles, Kentucky. It is almost magical looking and very out of place. It’s right off a busy highway and surely captures the attention of new passersby every day.
Hope you can view this large because I had to take it at such a far distance.
Wow ... what a great story, Cindy! Never heard about this place and I've been through Kentucky several times. Awesome pov and gorgeous lighting. And, yes, I'm sure that it looks a "little out of place," ...yet it's beautiful.
Interesting story and terrific photo of this intricately designed castle that must really seem out of place in Kentucky! You ought to treat yourself and stay there some weekend ;-) Actually it's cheaper than going to Disney these days!
This looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale Cindy....lovely capture! I really like how you framed the scene with the tree branches and thanks for including the history, makes the picture even more interesting! :)
@tthompsonca - My son gave me his old Kodak and I really like it. The zoom makes a huge difference, I think. It's only a 12X versus the 10x on the Coolpix, but to me there's a big difference in my close-ups. That was my biggest complaint with the Coolpix. I still carry the Coolpix with me at all times and if I see a beautiful sunset, I can pull it out. I think it takes great sunset pics.
@tthompsonca - Terri, that was a really sweet thing to say. I always love your pictures too. You have a unique way of looking at things....like the staircase and lighthouse. You're very creative!
