My father was a woodworker. He carved the most incredible pieces of art out of a simple block of wood. His hands were gnarled where they had been sewn back together several times over the years. It was his passion.
I took this picture when I was home visiting Mama, and it's not one of his best because, honestly, he gave most of his really good work away to friends. I thought about how hard that would be to put so much effort and so many hours into a project and then just give it away. But I think it gave him pleasure.
And so on this Sunday I thank God for my father, a talented, selfless man. Hopefully his creations are prized by the people that he shared them with.
Cindy it is marvelous. A family treasure for sure. My Dad carved vases and bells so I have windowsills lined with some of his things. When I pick them up I know that I am holding something in my hands that my beloved Father held in his. Sometimes that simple act calms me and sometimes it just flat out makes me cry. I hope that this piece comes to you.
He sounds like an amazing man with a beautiful soul! This looks absolutely amazing! A true work of art as is your composition & processing! Fav for your capture & words & his work!
A beautiful capture of your father's fantastic work. What great work he did ... his love for his "hobby" shows. Passion is a wonderful thing and he shared his with others. What a wonderful man ...very moving photo.
@karenann - I wish I'd been able to keep more of his work. He did love it so. He retired when he was 62 and he had a shop near the house. That's where he carved everything and he was actually working on a piece when he had a heart attack at 70. Thanks so much for the kind words.
