A light fitting? Or a detail of a hairbrush? No, the texture at the back of the 'spikes' doesn't look right for those. I give up. :)
Whatever it is, you've done a very cool close up of it and it works well in b&w too.

Well turning it to mono helped, it is a very colourful wall hanging, its in a deep turquoise and gold!!
