It is completely wild but it is managed for the grouse and is burned off and allowed to regrow giving the grouse the best sort of habitat. It never gets more than a foot or so high but when I was a girl it was a lot taller and not managed the way it is nowadays.

@craftymeg Thank you for the info. I've seen heather for sale here with the plants, but don't know that I've ever seen it actually growing anywhere.
