A trip to the Dales today was nice although the weather was grey with temps of 10c. I love the difference in the moorland to our North York Moors, it’s so bleak on the highgound and the lower land is littered with drystone walls and stone barns in nearly every field. The drystone walls are very different from the ones in our area and not nearly as well maintained and we have no stone barns that are anything like the ones we’ve seen today. There is also no heather and no bracken, just grass and peat bogs. It does have a different sort of beauty of its own. This is just one of the many barns, well built to last and I would suppose house the sheep in winter.
Nice on black
Thank you for all your comments and favs all are very welcome and appreciated.
There are still a few of these in the Isle of Man. A salutary reminder of how we take mod cons for granted and how hardy and determined are forbears were.
Having been born and brought up in West Yorkshire, I’m familiar with both the Dales and the Moors, this is the best description I’ve ever read! We had peat bogs and Heather. Lovely photo. So, looking forward to a trip back next year
I love your pov, the textures, the barn and rock wall...it looks as if it might be leaning a bit to the right and I wonder re cropping some of the sky out? I love teh sense of place and the sheep are terrific additions
Always jolly hard work hiking up the hills in the Dales too! Nice barn - hadn't realised the difference in maintenance between the two parks, interesting.
