15 years ago, when my son and his wife packed up their small home and went to Engand, we didnt expect that they wouldn't come back. My daughter in law wrote messages such as this one inside the boxes, while we were packing, thinking they would be fun to read when they came home. While they were here for their brief holiday they tried to go through them all to see what they would keep. This was the first time they had looked at it. Everything from childhood toys to books, household goods and outdated clothes have been making my house look like a charity shop!! Being their first home most of the stuff had been passed on to them from the family so it is very 'retro' but not valuable. Now, after farewelling them at the airport this morning I am starting to go through it all and then packing it up again so it can move on to another life somewhere else.
Stuff expands when left inboxes! We are trying to declutter but finding homes for stuff we don't want is not so easy! I still have unused wedding presents ...shameful.
There's something to keep you busy for quite some time. When my son and his wife went to the UK we were afraid they wouldn't come back but they did after he had completed his specialisation studies.
What a job wading your way through this lot. We have moved house 16 times and lived in three different countries and we take all our 'baggage' with us. ha ha. I am now beginning to attempt to de-clutter after 46 years of marriage.
Fun shot! I totally need to do that with all the boxes in my attic! We've been here for 13 years and if I can't remember what's in there now, I don't need it!
@pennystot I'm sure you are right. How did all this accumulate and we also have some wedding presents from 46 years ago lurking in the back of the cupboard.
@sangwann still sorting and giving away stuff; We still live in hope that they may return to live here but they are happy in London and have built a life together there. We must be thankful that they are happy and independant
@onewing we have been marriex 46 years too Babs. we havnt moved as often or as far as you but we have carted it all with us through 4 States. Now that we are getting rid of our farm we even have stuff from that to get rid of. I live in hope of a decluttered home.
@olivetreeann we have 3 sheds full of excess stuff. the trouble is when you start to open boxes you get caught up in memories and you have to be really strong to part with stuff. Have you heard of Marie Kondo and her method of decluttering. She says You must only keep stuff that sparks joy.
