According to Wikipedia these are the male flowers of an Ash tree I think its botanical name is Fraxinus Excelsior which sounds very grand. My neighbour gave it to me as a little seedling and now it is higher than the house and unfortunately I planted it too close. However, it gives beautiful shade in summer. Strangely the flowers appear straight after it loses its leaves in Autumn. I had never really looked closely at them before.
@cimes1 thankyou Carole. I owe it to 365 for making me more observant of my surroundings. I dont think I have ever looked closely at this tiny flowers before.
@nanm thankyou Nancy. Yes, I thought so too. The parrots have been going mad in the flowers and today the purple bits have gone and only the green remains.
@anjalikoli strangely enough the purple flowers have all fallen off and now all that is left is green but they will wither away too because there will be no leaves on this tree till next spring! seems odd to have flowers after the leaves have fallen
