the slag heap

Broken Hill is known as the Silver City. Its population is around 20,000. This mountainous slag heap is the backdrop to the town. 300 million metric tons of ore has been hauled from the ground for nearly 130 years. It is he worlds richest source of silver lead and zinc. I tooks this photo from nearly 9km with my zoom

Must put Broken Hill on the list for next year. I have been wanting to visit ever since David did a photo shoot for a friends mineral collection. The chap in question came from Broken Hill and lived all over the world as a mining engineer.
