As I snapped this shot of my son's ear, I thought about two things. Whenever, I think of ears, I always think about my aunt. She lives far away from me now. When she lived close enough to visit, she would always say, "What cute ears you have!", when she saw me. I wouldn't dare tell my son he has cute ears though (even if I would think this). The second thing I thought of is this: "Do we really listen to people when they are speaking?" Today was a day when people around me seemed to be saying one thing, but their body languages and facial expressions said that there might be stronger messages below the surface. So....."Do we really hear what people are trying to tell us? Do we have to listen with more than our ears?"
How interesting for your aunt to notice your ears. I wonder how this made you feel about them? We really don't ever mention ears do we - except maybe on a new baby. They are the only part of our body that doesn't stop growing - and ear series might be fun!! Well done for capturing this
I think there are two levels of hearing. The one as you've mentioned is the times we just superficially hear what others are saying- perhaps it's more "information collecting" than it is listening. But the deeper level is when we not only hear what the other person is saying, we understand what it means beyond the words. The latter of course is crucial to a good conversation! Good thoughts and nice shot!
