This is the Uptown Theatre, which is located in the historic downtown district. The Uptown Theatre is undergoing rennovation, in an effort to restore it to its former grandeur. This is being done through volunteer efforts and through monetary donations. There are many dreams for the Uptown Theatre: movie showings, live performances, seminars, meetings, ....
The Uptown Theater was built in the Art Deco architectural style. It opened in 1936. It cost $50,000. I can only imagine how much money this would cost in today's world. The theater had 800 seats, a blacony, and RCA Victor sound. It was the first air conditioned theatre in my city. The ticket booth under the marque has frosted Art Deco patterns on glass. The foyer has original light fixutres and inner vestibule doors. I have never been inside the theatre, but I was able to take a picture of one of the light fixtures by looking in one of the front windows. See www.uptownsedalia.com for the blueprint and photos of the inside to see the interior architectural details.
Much good luck to your city - I hope they raise enough for a wonderful renovation...my town did the same thing, although our original theater was smaller than 800 seats...we now have live music, plays and movies in it...I've not been inside yet, but the outside is very cool. This is a fabulous capture of your building and a fav for me!
@golder365mjsmith Thank you for your fav. I like art deco too. Thank you for your fav. You encourage me with your fav, as I find it difficult to get good building shots.
@pyrrhula Thank you. I like the Art Deco style too. Thank you for the fav. I struggle with taking good building shots, so your fav gives me the confidence to keep trying with buildings.
