I planted several perennials in the flower garden a few years ago. The bloosoms now look quite a bit different than they did that first year. I think the plants have lost their hybrid status and have gone back to a more orginal state. I was started this year, but I'm not really upset. The blossoms are bright and cheery and beautiful.
