After taking pictures of the approaching storm clouds, I went inside. Even though I knew the sky looked unsettled, I was still surprised when a tornado watch was announced shortly after I went inside. Within two minutes, a tornado warning was announced. I was tempted to go back outside and take more pictures. Then, common sense prevailed and I took cover in the basement. Looking back over the pictures I took of the storm clouds, I see that I should have not been surprised by the tornado watch nor by the tornado warning. Within a span of just several minutes of picture taking, the cloudy sky changed dramatically. Just looking at the lighting, I should have noticed something amiss. I learned from looking back at my storm cloud pictures. Sometimes when we photographers are taking pictures, we get caught up in our picture taking and do not realize danger signals. I hope I am more alert the next time.
P.S. The tornado warning was called because the radar indicated a tornado. Later, storm spotters saw rotation in the clouds. Fortunately, no tornado landed on the ground. The storm only brought heavy rainfall to my city.
I guess the tint of blue makes these clouds look less threatening than the ones I saw when I was out in St. Louis many years ago now! Glad you're safe!
