Festive and somber

I wondered how I would do these two words that don't seem to go together. A box arrived in the mail with a special gift. The pipe was made by a lifelong friend who is going through some real struggles this year. I am glad he has this outlet while he recovers his health.

Pipe specs:
1) Pipe is made from 58 year old Tuscan Briar (cross grain)
2) Trim is 50 year old Bubinga (African Hardwood)
3) Bit is German Vulcanite

Shape is a traditional straight Danish Egg with a traditional "danish" stain. Oil hardened and waxed.
Wow...that's a lost art! It looks wonderful..my Dad smoked a pipe for years!

Reminds me of my beloved Granddad. He always smoked a pipe. Lovely shot Danette, with all the lights in the background. Thank you for the memory

@lynnb Thanks, Lynn. I guess he charges quite a lot for some of them as the wood is very expensive, too.

@bdb3471 It's been a rough year for him. Not sure how things will pan out, but I hope he gets answers. It was, indeed, a marvelous gift.

@bkbinthecity Yes, I knew the moment I received the gift it would be my photo for the day!

@billsouth Yes, he makes marvelous pipes!

@dreams Thanks so much, Karen! I had to take many photos to get that one. Was harder than I expected it to be.

@chrismarfil Thank you, Chris!

@clmiller Thank you, Caren, you can certainly relate. Thanks for your kind words.

@chepstowgirl Aw, anything to remind one of a granddad is a good thing.

@paintdipper Thanks for your kind comments, Junan!

Really nice shot and a great tribute to the work that went into the pipe. I'm sure it helps him to be able to create something like that durring a rough time in his life.

@drewhuy Thanks so much, Drew! I sent him a copy of the photo and he greatly appreciated it. He even commented about "how much work went into the photo"! Doesn't compare to the amount of work done on the pipe! This one is simple compared to others he does.

You have managed to convey the two words very nicely. Do hope your friend is better soon.
