The Everglades Fires by danette

The Everglades Fires

We get fires in the Everglades every year, especially when it is dry. We had some lightning strikes late yesterday, apparently setting off a number of fires. I have never seen our town covered with such smoke. Already several hundred acres have burned.

Wow, such clouds. We've been having a lot of fires up this way also. Not sure if they are controlled burns or started by other means.

@rickster549 ours were started by lightning. I think they prefer to do controlled burns when it is less dry.

@joansmor there are constant wet/dry cycles in the Everglades. It is the dry time of year. Had a bad storm yesterday and lightning hit, causing the numerous fires.

Oh wow it is devastating, hope the fires are extinguished soon.

@onewing they aren’t usually this close. I’m sure they are working on it. Just depends on which direction the wind blows.

This is a very beautiful but disturbing image. You captured it well.

A good capture of the scene. Parts of West Texas and New Mexico are fighting wildfires now too.
