We were surprised to see that the Everglades fire was only a few hundred feet from our town. Everything up to the levee was completely burned. Fire had jumped one levee, but there was a canal preventing the spread to the north. On the good side, there is already green growth. This is part of the fire, from several miles away: https://365project.org/danette/365/2022-05-07. Another photo of this area long before the fire: https://365project.org/danette/365/2018-10-03
Beautiful, especially the sky. It is amazing to me that with all the water in the Everglades there would be fires. In the national parks we have visited after forest fires, the undergrowth comes back better than ever.
@louannwarren it is our dry season. This fire was caused by lightning. Most of the Everglades has very shallow water, so it doesn't take much lack of rain to affect the levels.
@skipt07 the fire was getting close to my relative’s business and fire teams were at the ready. Many prayed for rain. Do you know…rain that was not on the radar came within the hour and doused the whole fire that had already consumed over 6000 acres!
