It seems that the hurricanes or even tropical storms named with the letter I are always trouble. Unless the path changes, it has its eye on my brother’s home in the Big Bend area. They are calling for a 10’ storm surge. My son is under a mandatory evacuation. Pray for those in the path!
@marlboromaam Idalia will be crossing a lot of land first. As of the 5pm advisory, my brother will take a direct hit. While he’s a few miles inland, he is on the river. The storm surge map estimates more than 9’ of water at his house. He can handle that, but not more. Ugh. Just ugh! Our son is within eye site of Tampa Bay…
@danette Yes, crossing Florida and coming right up the coast where Franklin's winds will be blowing. Hoping your son and brother will be fine. The reporters say we'll get flash flooding and trees down with the wet ground and wind, but nothing like Florida will get. Can't wait for hurricane season to be over. So many here fear because of Hugo and Joaquin. The hundreds of tornados Hugo spawned and the rain train of 23 inches in 18 hours brought by Joaquin. Nasty business! You stay safe. Get your son to come home to you.
@marlboromaam that won’t happen. I’ll be happy if he goes 5 miles inland like his favorite meteorologist recommends! Last time, it took them cutting the power for him to leave, my fear is that it hasn’t even started to accelerate. Be safe!
It's coming right at us but we are enough inland so the storm surge won't get us, just the wind and rain! Hope your family stays safe. We are leaving for the east coast for a couple of days.
@photographycrazy my son is nearly on Tampa Bay. While he is safe, the streets would be flooded. Sounds like even if it jogs west, my brother’s s house will still be in trouble due to the surge.
Cool capture. I'm sure there is going to be some interesting clouds over the next few days. Stay safe down there. Not looking forward to the storm, wherever it goes.
Terrible news! The place were I would visit yearly is Indian Rocks Beach. It is in Group A evacuation too! Scary. Later it looked like the path changed to the panhandle for a direct hit. This is what scares me about Florida. Having to evacuate quite often would be very difficult for me. I visited Fort Myers and Sanibel and then they were demolished a few months later. I couldn’t take it. I pray for everyone.
@gardenfolk Hoping Indian Rocks Beach doesn't get too much of a storm surge. I have only evacuated twice in my lifetime, but I don't live in Zone A. It is a big state, so there are often evacuations--just in different areas. At least we can prepare for a hurricane.
