After a weekend where I've felt particularly anxious so far, we took a walk through Netherton Tunnel (West Midlands - UK) from the Tipton end early this morning - in beautiful weather. It takes around 40 minutes to walk the tunnel which comes in at 1.8 miles! Donning our torches we took our own pace along the (at times) very waterlogged path, passing a few people on bikes and a couple of walkers.
Me being me though managed to stumble... Not sure if I was anywhere near going in but I managed to tear a hole in my trouser knee and cut it badly too. I have also scuffed a shoulder and twisted the opposite leg which is now giving me some gip. Still, there'll be a nice scab to pull off in a few days' time!
Don't know why we've taken 25+ years to walk this but the difference between the two ends is like the equivalent of walking into Narnia through a wardrobe! Bumble Hole and it's nature reserve and Cobb's Engine House near the southern portal are stunning!
Highly recommended.
