The Beach Vendor

Best on black.
Old photos with new edits, no favs please (trying to honor those who are submitting new photos). :)

On the night my friend and I ate on the beach at this wonderful restaurant, we saw various corn vendors selling to the people walking the beaches at night. You can see (barely) in his left hand the fire and the corn he is roasting.

This photo took me a loooong time to edit. I discovered "Dfine2" as part of the Nik Suite today and it gets rid of noise in photos. So I adjusted the lens profile first, went to Dfine, then came back to LR and edited the rest. I forgot to take it back into Color Efex after Dfine. In LR, I used a ton of cloning because while Dfine did a nice job of eliminating some noise, it did not get rid of the glaring white bits you'll get in a grainy shot. I also cloned out about 4 people on the left side--hopefully you cannot see. I love the colors, the serenity of the beach, and the fire that roasts the corn.

I also spent a ton of time on the photo I worked on yesterday hoping to find another avenue to crack that shot (because while it's a horrible technical photo, I think I can transform it with the right editing process).

This is one of my favorite photos from my trip but it was taken in awful light and handheld.

Some good news today and bad news. I ordered two new lenses for my birthday. A Tamron 24-70 2.8 lens and an 18-400 Tamron lens (not expecting miracles, but I need a zoom for sports and for just general outside shots). The first lens was on a big sale at B& H. I initially wanted a 70-200 2.8 lens, but they are so extraordinarily expensive--while I would love it for my sports photography, I will only likely do that for 2 more years. What I really need is something to expand portraits and artistic photography or street, which are all my passions these days but I have mostly crappy lenses for low light.

So my birthday is Sunday. That's all good news.

The bad news? The guy on the phone made the order for a Nikon mount. I own a Canon. Sigh.

Hot dog. I actually ate hot dogs tonight. With Chili. Because school is out another day due to ice and chill outside. We southerners shut the city down when it's like this. I'm going crazy.

Happy birthday! I bought that Tamron 18-400 (Nikon). While I have much to learn, it does well. Came recommended over the similar Nikon lens. It is heavy IMO. I don't see the 4 people you edited out. I think you edited this very well.

This is my favorite kind of photography -- nighttime with special scenes of found light. I can imagine this photo takes you right back to that moment in time. Thanks for outlining your process. Must look up Dfine. So much noise in my night photography! Early Happy Birthday greetings and so exciting about your new lenses!

Haha, getting rid of 4 people...
you could easily organise a family reunion without anyone coming: just edit them in a nicely composed photo. Wouldn’t that be nice, for a change? In instead of out? 😘 Any way: great editing job I love this pic too!

@stimuloog It looks like I'm getting rid of people faster than gaining them! Hahahaha.

@danette Well, I made a new decision. A friend here on 365 actually has the Tamron 16-300 (the older version) and agreed to sell it to me, so while it's shorter in length, I don't really need the extension these days! So I saved a bit there. Can't wait to get the Tamron 24-70 2.8. I'm borrowing a friend's Canon one until Monday when it arrives. My cousin is arriving for her book tour this weekend (she's on the NYTimes bestseller list at #5--at least last week she was). Exciting.
