Mermaid

Reaching back again to develop some shots I took with our underwater camera (well, my daughter's) and I ETSOOI with LR5. What I can tell you is that RAW is much easier to ETSOOI. Jpg, not so much, but here ya go.
I love the light & color!

Very cool! love the light and tones. The swimmer has a wonderful streamline position in the arms/hands.

Such a cool shot. Your underwater camera really shoots clear shots, and you have composed it so nicely.

Nicely done Daryl - I'm a great fan of LR5... it can do much more than most people give it credit for.

Actually, would you mind commenting on your processing technique here? I would like to know what you did in LR5....

@adambralston definitely ETSOOI. First is was a jpeg from an underwater camera. I worked with clarity, Highlights, shadows, then added graduated filter below and worked on clarity again. Added another graduated filter for above, repeat. Then used a radial filter for the "mermaid" which did not really work out as I ended up making it like there was a spotlight on her. Lots of smoothing after doing the clarity. You can see her face is completely messed up after all I did, but it was interesting. Had this been raw, I would have had much better success!

@darylo Thing is, this is a brilliant shot to edit I think. That's why I wanted to know the technique, your filters add so much to this shot. And distortion doesn't seem to be a problem because it is underwater. Do any of us really know what it is like to see underwater with our limited land eyes? Thank you for the description. I have not really mastered the graduated filters yet. Splitting the image in half like you did makes total sense. Also, not used to using the radial filter yet. Just not really sure what it does.
