I have been wondering why my hummingbird feeder is not being used by the local hummingbirds this summer. Yesterday, I sat outside to watch birds come raid my Autumn Olive bush and I heard that familiar "fairy twit" of the hummingbird (I think it's their wings actually). In fact, I heard a bunch of them. But only one surfaced for a shot--they are feeding on my mimosa!
The Mimosa and the Autumn Olive plants are both in the top ten pest plants of GA (they are invasive species), but they are keepers in my back yard. I do prune and care for them if that helps. :)
Again, an example of my lens not working up to snuff for a shot. I have to choose either time priority (which I often do in these cases for high shutter) or sports mode (which I did for this time as I just wanted a shot and it was last minute). I want more length and a camera body that can handle the higher ISO's or is that a lens thing--probably need wider apertures there. Maybe I'm just whining a bit too much. I'll get over myself. ;)
@amandal I just get tired of trying to fix things in LR. My best lenses are full-framed (I use them on my crop sensor), but they don't do distance like the kit zoom. Even if I purchased a 70-300 Zoom, I would have a much nicer piece of glass. The kit one 75-300 is really very basic. Proud of what I have been able to do, but at the same time, I'm ready for something better. I don't think I have to go full-frame for the camera necessarily, but I think I do need a better camera with some more advanced abilities. Thanks for the visit girl!
@darylo Mine is crap, but I can make things look nice in editing. One day, I can upgrade again:). Kit zooms do pretty well, but I want more clarity in photos.
FAV I think this is a super shot.
Go to your local camera store. I've found that the guys there are wonderful help to guide me in what I need to accomplish. We only have one "store" left as online has put them out of business. But we have a top of the line Dodd's. They are so helpful. The president was there one day and ended up giving me a better head for a tripod. He also said to invest in glass not bodies.
@cdonohoue thanks so much! Ihave been iinvesting in glass so far. One if the tricky things about my body is that the sensor is basic and with bird shots I need something that can work better had higher ISOs; otherwise I need ine very bright day so much of the time to get that sharp focus. For now I keep upgrading glass and the zoom is next!
@grammyn Oh I like. I'm just tired of having to really fuss with a phoot to get a good effect. The bird's out of focus but I'm happy with the overall comp. I also have to crop so much to get a good view fir viewer. Saving for better mire powerful lens is the best option and I will go for used. :)
