Young Eastern Towhee? by darylo

Young Eastern Towhee?

It must be a juvenile Towhee, right? The hawk above was eyeing it and I hope that I saved it from certain death...
I think you are right! Sweet bird! Glad he isn't dinner.Although your beautiful hawks need to eat something.Maybe some starlings.Plenty of them.

@mzzhope I have never seen a starling here but the song birds are few these days in this area because the hawks set up shop. I like when they go for rodents first. But like I said, I don't interfere. I know this little chap was having a hard time escaping my lens and I was between the hawk and the Towhee. I think it was going to go for it before I got there. I was actually looking for the hawk when I happened on the Towhee as I heard hom doing his call. I live that I can find them almost every time. :)

Oh, no -- nature red in tooth and claw. I love the beauty and spirit of raptors but try to avoid thinking what a hawk might do to that little bird. It's one reason I keep my cats inside. If only my neighbor would do the same. I blame the scarcity of songbirds in my yard on those long tailed, bewhiskered varmints.
