Uluwatu Sunset -- Bali Series by darylo

Uluwatu Sunset -- Bali Series

NOT MY PHOTO. Photo courtesy of Susan C. Hines. The day my friend Susan and I went Parasailing, jet skiing, and banana boating (I know, sounds as weird as it really was), we ended at Uluwatu in Bali--one of the most famous "sunset temples" on the island.

For this trip, Susan bought a Sony mirrorless camera, and I must say that if I didn't get this heavy, action camera (the Canon 7D MII), I'd recommend her new camera as it consistently took great photos on "auto" and the weight is a fraction of what I was carrying.

Uluwatu, land of amazing cliffs, land of a beautiful temple I did NOT visit (because I liked this spot too much), land of brides and grooms with pro photographers getting a sunset shot (more on that later). LAND OF FREAKING WAY TOO MANY MONKEYS. I DO NOT LIKE MONKEYS. BEFORE THIS LOVELY PHOTO WAS TAKEN, I WAS CROUCHING IN THE SAME SPOT AND A MONKEY CLIMBED MY PACK AND THEN MY HEAD. YOU SEE HOW FAR I AM FROM THE CLIFF. I AM NOT EXAGGERATING....

Now that I can stop yelling, I can say that this is where I learned that I am NOT a landscape photographer. I think I have about 150 shots at least from this location and only one or two are ones I would want to print. Really. Hats off to the landscape photographers of the world (and I know some amazing ones), but this ain't my thang. No, I didn't bring the tripod this time, but I did on the other "sunset" venue, and all I did was get frustrated. Not that it was not worth it at all, but, I know where my talents are, and it is not here. Very much worth the lesson though, and serious hats off to those of you seeking a perfect sunset because a "certain moment" and a "certain angle" really make or break the situation.

What I appreciate in this photo that I DID NOT take is that I look like I am doing what I like, and that is truth in the photo. I wouldn't trade a single second of my frustration at all. I learned sooooo much as a photographer from this trip.
I would love to see the shot you captured while Susan was capturing this wonderful image!

Goodness, you wouldn't want to fall over the edge! One monkey, and you could have gone! A nice picture of you doing what you love, and boy, does that backpack look heavy!

Lovely shot of you in action! Your toes dangling over the cliff made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, though. Ha ha ha! :)

Well, I am not sure I could get that close to the edge! Good for you!

Wonderful shot but I certainly would not dare to go that close to the edge. And the backpack is awesome too, I love mine too after you recommended it. I have the slightly smaller 15L.

What? No one took a picture of the monkey on your head? How cool would that have been!
