Harajuku Street Fashion by darylo

Harajuku Street Fashion

Trying to continue my Japan series from last year. Great street photography opportunites in this hip, trendy area of Tokyo. From one day to the next, you don't know what you will see. While known for its youthful hangout quality with some outrageous fashion, I found it great that traditional garb was here in the mix.
THis is wonderfully composed and give such a sense of place and story. By the way, I can't find your tabouli recipe anywhere. Any chance you would send it to me again when you get a chance? jgpittenger@yahoo.com

What a fabulous image. So lovely to see that some Japanese women still wear traditional dress.

This is lovely... let's hope that the old traditions are maintained by the younger generations.

Looks like a fun place.

Fabulous to still see the traditional fashion on the streets. This is a most unusual street scene that would do well for the current artists challenge if it were taken recently

@amrita21 I think my traveling days are almost now over. College is up next in a couple of years for my oldest, so we are in save, save, save mode. But I did get France in this summer. I do hope to get to India SOMEDAY! How is your fine chess champion these days. I bet he doesn't even remember me! :) So kind of you to drop by. I'm on and off here, mostly off, but I had to say hi to one of my BFF's of 365. xoxo

@darylo Daryl, you must meet up when you come to India. I think we have exchanged email id's too. My chess champion is doing good, hopefully if all goes well, will play for the World Schools in December.
I have been preoccupied so I too am not so active but so love 365. I have some amazing friends here.
He does remember you. Hope you are in good health and all well with both your girls.
Honoured tho hear one of your BFF of 365! :))

might be traditional attire but those western parasols are the modern addition!

@jyokota yes! This was the day of the MASSIVE downpour and it was still "spitting" as a mist. I imagine they were protecting their wardrobes. On a side note, Kira received a traditional Yukata from her host family-stunning. She wore it with her host sister to a festival. I was awestruck by the beauty!

@darylo -- could have been, but white is generally to keep sun out, and the black one looks like it has the silver reflector that keeps UV rays out. Multifunctional rain and sun!

It must feel elegant to walk down the street dressed thus - rather than the ubiquitous jeans!
